CRVS Week: Technology in Civil Registration Continues to Provide Rwandans with Quality Services

Starting from August 12, 2025, Rwanda will mark Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Week, an annual event aimed at promoting awareness and encouraging the use of modern, technology-based systems in civil registration. This year’s celebration took place in NYARUGURU District as a first district in civil registration.

Throughout the week, communities across the country will take part in awareness campaigns, workshops, and public demonstrations showcasing the benefits of digital civil registration. Citizens will receive guidance on how to conveniently access self-service options via the Irembo platform known as Byikorere allowing them to request and process services without the need for long queues or multiple visits to administrative offices.

Participants will also learn about the formal procedures for marriage registration, an important step in ensuring legal recognition and protection for families. In addition, the introduction of the Single Digital ID will be highlighted as a milestone innovation, enabling Rwandans to access all essential government services such as healthcare, education, financial services, and social protection through a single and secure recognized identity.

This year’s African theme is “Civil Registration as the Foundation for Digital Public Infrastructure and Digital Legal Identities Systems in Africa” While the national customized theme is “Leveraging Digital Civil Registration System to Build Inclusive and Accessible Services” reflects Rwanda’s commitment to leveraging digital transformation to ensure that no one is left behind.

By integrating technology into the civil registration system, the government aims to provide every citizen with a secure, verified identity in a manner that is efficient, transparent, and equitable.

Ultimately, CRVS Week serves as a reminder that accurate, complete, and timely civil registration data is not only a legal right but also a foundation for effective governance, national planning, and socio-economic development. With technology at the forefront, Rwanda is taking bold steps toward a future where every citizen is counted, recognized, and empowered to access the services they need.
